Wearing a watch can say a lot about a person. In addition to being functional, they add a touch of fun, elegance, and class to the total look of an outfit or occasion. From the company's humble beginnings to its current powerful success, Seiko Watches is a major leader in the time piece industry.

Seiko's beginnings are very humble indeed. In 1881, a man named Kintaro Hattori opened a watch and jewelry store in Tokyo, Japan. Mr. Hattori and his small company enjoyed modest success until 1892 when he began to produce clocks, using the brand name Seikosha. The meaning behind the name of the clock line has special significance. In the Japanese language, Seikosha means exquisite or success, depending on how it is written. It wasn't until 1924 that the Seiko company division began to manufacture watches for mass sale. At the time, the new technology used to produce these watches didn't come cheap. The price for a new Astron watch was comparable to the cost of a medium sized car. Obviously, the price eventually came down due to the watch's popularity and competition from other companies.

Throughout the Seiko Company's history, the goal has always been to provide their customers with high quality watches. Seiko is one of the few watch manufacturers that produces all of the pieces and mechanisms used in their watches in one location. The Seiko factories also produce the oil and lubricants used in the watches. This helps to ensure the continued perfection of their products and creates an amazing sense of unity among the employees.

While the Seiko Watch division is most firmly devoted to the production of high quality watch pieces, they have also worked hard to ensure that they're offering watches that are affordable to everyone. Citizen is finally going to start shipping out the much anticipated Minute Repeater on August 1st, 2006. Minute repeaters are watches that were developed prior to electricity to tell time in the dark via the use of sound. While this function is no longer necessary with the various types of illumination system being employed in different watches, minute repeater watches remain some of the favorites to collectors.

While many mechanical and quartz minute repeaters are available at a wide range of prices, there has never been one equipped with the Eco-Drive movement.
