Citizen Automatic Watches

Citizen Automatic Watches

Citizen was founded in 1930, but has roots in watchmaking as the Shokosha Watch Research Institute. The meaning behind the name Citizen is that the company wanted to make quality watches that were so affordable that every citizen could own one. As the largest watch manufacturer of cheap, sale watches in the world, it can safely be said that Citizen has achieved their goal. Citizen has since evolved the meaning behind their name to being a ‘citizen of the world’. There is arguably no other brand that has been as eco-conscious as this Japanese watchmaker. This is exemplified by their production of the first watch – the Eco-Drive – that never needs a battery replacement. Today, Citizen watch company owns Bulova, and is the leader in Japanese watchmaking.
