The Michael Kors brand is known for luxurious simplicity and aspiration to a jet set lifestyle, and the watches fit very comfortably into the overall plan. Materials like stainless steel, and metal in a number of tones, plastic, and metal bracelets or polyurethane, ceramic, or acetate straps are used to great effect in the design of chic-modern but still formal enough to be worn to the office or out to dinner.
Michael Kors was born in 1959 in Long Island, New York. His mother was a model, which probably contributed to his very early interest in fashion design. By the time he was a teenager, he was selling homemade clothing out of the family garage. He enrolled at the Fashion Institute of Technology in New York City, but dropped out after two semesters to go to work at Lothar's, a boutique that allowed him to design and sell his own fashion collection. In 1997, he became the creative director at Celine, a French fashion house. Over the next few years, he expanded into menswear, accessories, and perfume lines. In 2003, he was named Menswear Designer of the Year from the Council of Fashion Designers of America. Since 2004, Kors has been involved with the hit reality TV show Project Runway.
Michael Kors is currently one of the top US luxury brands around the world. The watch line of the brand is very diverse, and in contrast to many fashion brands, places considerably more emphasis on women's models. Like many designer brands, production of Michael Kors watches is overseen by Fossil.
